The EPSRC CDT in Mathematics of Random Systems: Analysis, Modelling and Algorithms is a partnership between three world-class departments in the area of probabilistic modelling, stochastic analysis and their applications, the Oxford Mathematical Institute, the Oxford Department of Statistics and the Department of Mathematics, Imperial College London, with the ambition of training the next generation of academic and industry experts in stochastic modelling, advanced computational methods and Data Science.

The CDT offers a fully funded 4-year comprehensive training programme at the frontier of scientific research in Probability, Stochastic Analysis, Stochastic Modelling, stochastic computational methods and applications in physics, finance, biology, healthcare and data science.

Students receive solid training in core skills related to probability theory, stochastic modelling, data analysis, stochastic simulation, optimal control and probabilistic algorithms. In the first year, students follow four Core courses on Foundation areas as well as three elective courses, and undertake a supervised  research project, which then evolves into a PhD thesis.

We’re excited to announce additional searches for Research Professionals at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business have opened. We’re currently hiring full-time research assistants to start around July 1, 2021, though other start dates will be considered. The research assistants will work closely on faculty research, with faculty across an array of disciplines hiring this fall.  We currently have positions open with Emanuele Colonnelli & Kilian Huber (finance and macroeconomics), Quentin Vandeweyer (finance), and Giovanni Compiani, Sarah Moshary, and Bradley Shapiro (marketing). Interested applicants can learn more about these positions and the application process by visiting our website, and job seekers can sign up at our mailing list to be directly contacted about new positions as they open.  We are eager to recruit students of diverse academic backgrounds with strong quantitative skills, not just economists.

Research Professionals and similar positions at other universities are relatively new to the academic pipeline, but they are quickly becoming an integral positions in economics departments and at business schools.  Such positions are an excellent option for anyone considering a PhD program who is still uncertain, or as an alternative for anyone considering a Master’s degree as a step toward a PhD.  Anyone who would like to learn more should visit www.predoc.org for more information and an aggregated list of opportunities from several institutions.

Please encourage interested students to email ResearchProfessional@lists.chicagobooth.edu to learn more.  This position has been an excellent preparation for PhD programs in the quantitative social sciences, with previous participants going on to institutions like Harvard, MIT, Berkeley, Stanford, and UChicago.

2020-21 application NOW OPEN!

Deadline: Nov. 25, 2020

All preparation requirements must be completed by Fall 2020 for eligibility.

Applicants must be juniors or below.

The Quantitative Investment Strategies group at Goldman Sachs is looking for current juniors to apply for a summer analyst position within our client-facing team at our NYC headquarters. This team offers a great opportunity for those who have a passion for quantitative, analytical or programming challenges, but also want to be client-facing and gain a deep understanding of investing with a quantitative methodology.

To give you an idea of our work, I split my time approximately evenly between the following three areas: programming (primarily data analytics and visualization, along with systems for analyzing investment portfolios), prepping for and meeting with our clients (both prospective and existing, some typical finance analyst work in Powerpoint/Excels), and producing analysis and research on our quantitative strategies. However, our team has many diverse skillsets and members will spend different amounts of time on various aspects of the role depending on their unique strengths. I’ve included further information on the team in the attached document.

If this sounds interesting to you, please send your resume as well as a brief description on why you think this role is appealing to Matthijs Dijkgraaf (Matthijs.Dijkgraaf@gs.com) and copy me (Natalie.kennelley@gs.com). We are open to a broad variety of backgrounds and previous work experiences, so do not feel discouraged if you do not have a finance background. Members of our team have come from many academic backgrounds including math, physics, chemical, computer and mechanical engineering as well as math-track economics and computer science.
