Professor Stanley Osher reached an incredible milestone in his career, having hit over 150,000 citations on Google Scholar last week.   

Osher has been cited 150057 times since 1988 with an h-index of 130, making him the third highest cited researcher in the history of UCLA. For those who may not know, the h-index is the standard scholarly metric that calculates the number of publications for which an author has been cited by other authors at least that same number of times. For example, an h-index of 10 means that the author has published at least 10 papers that have each been cited at least 10 times.

Professors Rowan Killip and Monica Visan were honored with the 2023 Frontiers of Science Award by the International Congress for Basic Science for their paper “KdV is well-posed in H^{-1}” published in the Annals of Mathematics (2019). The ceremony was held in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, China, on July 16th, 2023. 

Out of the 130+ papers recognized this year across Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science, only five papers were recognized in the general area of Partial Differential Equations. Professor Killip and Professor Visan’s paper was one of those five that were awarded.

“For the 2023 selection, scientific works in both basic and applied research are chosen in 34 areas of the three basic science fields (mathematics, theoretical physics, and theoretical computer and information sciences) represented at the ICBS. A scientific achievement must meet the following three requirements to be considered: (1) it must have been published in the last 5 years; (2) it must be of highest scientific value and originality and have made an important impact on its area; (3) it must have been evaluated and accepted by scholars in its area,” as stated on the ICBS website.
