UCLA Math Alumnus Jacob Bedrossian to receive first Peter Lax Award

UCLA mathematics alumnus and professor of mathematics (University of Maryland) Jacob Bedrossian has been selected to receive the first Peter Lax Award for his achievements in mathematical theory of fluid dynamics. Jacob received his PhD from the UCLA Department of Mathematics in 2011, under the supervision of Joseph Teran. In honor of Lax’s seminal contributions to the modern theory and computation of hyperoblic conservation laws, the Peter Lax Award will be awarded to a young researcher (10 years within the PhD) at the International Conference on Hyperbolic Problems: Theory, Numerics, Applications (HYP) held every two years.

Established in 1986, the HYP conference brings together scientists with interests in the areas of theoretical, applied, and computational aspects of hyperbolic partial differential equations and related mathematical models. The HYP 2020 Conference will be held in Málaga (Spain) in June 22-26, 2020, where Bedrossian will be delivering a distinguished plenary lecture.
