Probability & Mathematical Physics
The probability group at UCLA has a long tradition of working in the areas related to mathematical physics although research interests of its members include also applications to biology, social sciences and other disciplines. Over the last 40 years, members of the group made numerous contributions to the subjects of interacting particle systems, percolation, Markov chain theory, phase transitions in statistical mechanics, etc. The activities of the group include organization a probability seminar, current-literature seminars for students interested in probability as well as a yearly Southern California Probability Symposium (jointly, on a rotating basis, with UCSB, UCI, UCSD and USC).
