Undergraduate Math Council 2022-2023 Applications

Dear Math Bruins, We hope you all are enjoying your summer and staying safe. We would like to invite you all to apply to the Undergraduate Math Council (UMC) for the upcoming school year! The UMC is a student-run, student-led group with the purpose of fostering communication between math students and the department, creating a more inclusive space, and making Math Bruins of all identities feel welcome. This opportunity will provide you with the chance to learn more about the Math Department’s inner workings as well as positively impact the thousands of your peers who interact with the Math Department. The UMC works on a number of projects, including…

– Running an Instagram to promote math-related events/resources/opportunities as well as raise awareness of the immense diversity of the global Mathematical community

  • – Creating student-support resources like advice columns, guides for navigating the math majors, and peer-reviews of math courses
  • – Organizing and promoting math-related events, like Q&As with Pablo Ocal, a UCLA Postdoc, and Justin Williams, a Quantitative Analyst with the LA Dodgers, that discuss everything from educational and career advice to cool areas of math to EDI at UCLA and in math communities

– Some form of a Math major, pre-major, minor, or pre-minor

– Passionate about advocating for students and removing barriers in higher education and STEM
