Spring 2024 Human Biology and Society Major Applications

The Human Biology and Society, BA major and Human Biology and Society, BS major are now live. Applications can be found on the Applications page of our website and will be due at 3 PM on April 12, 2024 (Week 2 Friday of Spring quarter).

On the Applications Page, you will be able to find the application forms and FAQs. There is also an informational video that discusses each application component, tips, and resources that you may use while navigating the application process. I encourage you to check out those materials for more detailed information. In the meantime, I am also writing down below some quick FYIs.


Application Timeline:

  • March 1, 2024 to April 12, 2024: Application form is open
  • April 12, 2024 (at 3 PM): Deadline to submit the application (deadline is final)
  • May 23, 2024: Decisions will be released via email (please note that this date may be subject to change)

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Only Class of 2026 may apply to the HBS major this coming Spring 2024. All second-year pre-HBS majors or any second-year student interested in applying to the HBS major must apply this cycle. First-year students who are hoping to graduate in 3 years may apply IF they are already meeting minimum eligibility requirements (which are outlined below).
  • All applicants can apply to either HBS BA or HBS BS major, but NOT both.
  • The minimum eligibility requirements are:
    • HBS BA: complete all of our pre-major requirements by the end of Spring 2024 with a cumulative pre-major GPA of 2.900.
    • HBS BS: complete at least 13 of our pre-major requirements (including Soc Gen 5 or Cluster M71A or Cluster M72A) by the end of Spring 2024 with a cumulative pre-major GPA of 2.500.
  • Students who do not meet minimum eligibility requirements are still welcome to apply, but they will need to fill out the Petition for Exception section within the application.
  • Please note that meeting minimum eligibility requirements alone does not guarantee admission into the major.

How to Apply:

On the Application page of our website, you will be able to access a Google Doc file of the application form that you can use as a draft/ working document. HOWEVER, all applications must be submitted through the Google Form found on the same webpage. Please note that resumes/ CVs and letters of recommendation are not needed and will not be accepted. Lastly, please note that you may only submit your application after all Winter 2024 grades have been posted.
