TITLE: Frontline Ambassador

DEPARTMENT: Visitor Experience

SALARY: $15.50 hourly

JOB SUMMARY:

The Frontline Ambassador position aims to create a welcoming and engaging experience for visitors that carries out the Hammer’s mission. A Frontline Ambassador is responsible for engaging with the public, answering questions, providing information about the exhibitions, and promoting membership. There are additional opportunities to assist with public programs in the Billy Wilder Theater, and assist with special events.  This position reports to the Visitor Experience Manager with direction and oversight from Visitor Experience Leads.

DAYS/HOURS: Approximately 15 hours/week, or as needed for operations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

·         Registered UCLA undergraduate

·         Ability to work a variable weekly schedule; Must have availability for at least one 10:30 a.m.–6:15 p.m. shift Tuesday, Wednesdays, or Thursday, as well as one other shift Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.

·         Customer service experience/interest; prior retail, food service, hospitality, or museum work preferred

·         Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to conduct oneself in a polite and professional manner in a variety of situations

·         Ability to assert oneself when needed in order to enforce policies and protect artwork;

·         Ability to use good judgment and to respond in handling crowds while remaining calm and presenting a professional demeanor

·         Ability to wear a mask for long periods of time

·         Experience with, knowledge of, appreciation for, or interest in visual art with emphasis on contemporary work

TITLE: Gallery Ambassador

DEPARTMENT: Gallery Operations

JOB SUMMARYThe Gallery Ambassador position combines the responsibilities of art protection with museum information and art appreciation. The primary responsibility of a Gallery Ambassador is the safety of the artwork and enforcement of museum policies. A Gallery Ambassador is responsible for monitoring the gallery spaces and protecting the art while engaging with the public to answer questions and provide information about the exhibits and the Hammer. A Gallery Ambassador also provides exceptional customer service by greeting visitors as they enter the galleries and ensuring that all guests have proper access.

 

DAYS/HOURS: Approximately 15-18 hrs/week, or as needed for operations. Must be able to commit to a set schedule each quarter.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

·         Registered UCLA Undergraduate

·         Experience/interest in working in a dynamic environment with both fast-paced and slower settings

·         Customer service experience

SALARY: $16 hourly

JOB SUMMARY STATEMENT: The Hammer Museum is looking for UCLA undergraduates from diverse disciplines to serve as Student Educators beginning in September 2022 and working through the 2022-2023 academic year. As the museum’s core teaching staff, Educators lead public and private tours in which visitors of all ages make authentic and personally relevant connections to art, one another, and the world through close looking, dialogue, inquiry, and reflection. Educators also support family programming and may contribute to digital education initiatives. 

Educators participate in a year-long, paid training program that explores special exhibitions and collections, strategies for leading conversations about works of art, and best practices for engaging different audiences in person and digitally. They are responsible for the entire process of creating a tour, from research to execution, lead an average of three to six tours per month, and engage in special projects including developing lesson plans for a variety of grade levels. By serving as Educators, students gain in-depth knowledge about Hammer exhibitions and collections; acquire experience in the museum and education fields; and improve their research, teaching, and communication skills.

HOURS/DAYS: 3-8 hrs/week depending on tour schedule (3 office hours each week scheduled between Mon-Friday 10am-6pm, trainings from 4-6pm every other Friday, plus additional weekday and weekend tour times, as scheduled). Appointment starts mid-September and will run for the full academic year; option to renew.

Training and work will be conducted in accordance with UCLA’s COVID-19 policies. Applicants must be available to report to work in person but may occasionally work remotely.

REQUIREMENTS:

● Registered UCLA undergraduate students only. Preference for rising sophomores and juniors who may be able to continue the position for multiple academic years.

● Interest in culture, arts, or nonprofits.

● 1-2 years of teaching or tutoring experience.

● Ability to organize and present complex information effectively to a range of audiences including students and the public.

● Skill in interacting with persons of various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.

● Ability to conduct basic academic research.

● Ability to pay attention to detail, work independently, and follow through on assignments.

● Ability to work weekends, when needed.

Founded in 2018, the Benjamin Graham Value Investing Program equips undergraduate economics students with an unparalleled education in
finance and investing. Students participating in this two-year program will be able to understand the full set of fundamental economic and strategic forces that favor or disfavor a particular investment opportunity from both a theoretical and practical perspective.

A cohort of 40 students is selected annually to participate in the following sequence:

  • Year 1: The Academic Concentration in Value Investing, taking place throughout the 2022-2023 Academic Year, is taught by real-world  Practitioners known as “Investors in Residence”.  This industry-based curriculum prepares students through applied research projects, financial modeling, and group projects in five core courses:
    • EC-167 History of Financial Crises (Fall 2022)
    • EC-168 Introduction to Value Investing (Fall 2022)
    • EC-169 Applied Value Investing (Winter 2023)
    • EC-106S Competitive Strategy (Spring 2023)
    • EC-177 Field Projects in Investing (Spring 2023) 
  • Year 2: The Simon Fellowship Program, taking place throughout the 2023-2024 Academic Year, is a senior-level recruitment platform created to provide exceptional Value Investing Program participants with avenues to explore careers at hedge funds, private equity firms, and other buy-side roles. Simon Fellows participate in year-round career guidance, buy-side firm visits, industry mentorship, and leadership projects. Furthermore, Simon Fellows are eligible for the CFA Institute’s University Affiliation Program, giving Fellows the opportunity to take the Level 1 Exam prior to graduation.

Students who satisfy the following requirements are encouraged to apply:

  • Satisfactory completion of the lower division requirements for the Economics, Business Economics, or Mathematics/Economics Majors
  • Satisfactory completion of following courses before commencing the concentration in Fall 2022:
    • ECON 101: Microeconomic Theory
    • MGMT 1A: Principles of Accounting I
    • MGMT 1B: Principles of Accounting II
  • Non-majors are welcome to apply but are encouraged to complete the above requirements.

UCLA Summer Sessions is seeking Precollege Residential Assistants (PRAs) to provide supervision to high school students participating in UCLA Summer Sessions programming. PRAs will promote a safe, inclusive, and fun environment for our visiting high school students in one of UCLA’s deluxe Residence Halls. PRAs will work 19 hours per week, perfect for pairing with a Summer Session A course.

Duties Include:

  • Assisting with check-in and check-out
  • Performing curfew checks
  • Responding to incidents
  • Implementing recreational programming on evenings and weekends

Precollege Residential Assistants are an important link between UCLA’s visiting high school students and the university itself. Your own experience as a UCLA undergraduate makes you a treasure trove of information for these students, many of whom dream of coming to UCLA to study.
